Links

Remember links?

(A link is not an endorsement, but if any of these turn out to be broken/compromised/regrettable, feel free to let me know.)

I’ve also got a links series going on the blog proper, I try to post monthly, see here:

Favorite Tools

(Besides hand tools, obviously)

  • vim I’m no vim wizard, but when I’m at a terminal I like vim and when I can I like vim plugins for my editors.
  • vscode pretty good editor
  • fzf this is a lifesaver if you’re looking for files on linux (or even Mac!)
  • git git is well worth mastering
  • ack a nice alternative to grep
  • Godot is the game engine I’ve wanted since Flash died. Very fun to program in.
  • Blender Like C++, a blender user will carve out a subset of the tools and master them
  • Union Bytes Painter I’ve had great results with this tool.
  • GIMP I have no idea what photoshop is like now, but GIMP is like photoshop when I learned photoshop.
  • Reason the first daw I really got any good at
  • Renoise I still think that if I could just get good at Renoise I’d be able to sound like Aphex Twin
  • Audacity simple tool for editing audio, for days when you don’t want to bust out a full DAW
